Pre-Cleanse Homework
Lesson 2: Juicy Secrets
Lifestyle
Food & Beverage
- Eat well, eat freely! Focus on vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and fresh animal proteins
- Avoid wheat, milk, sugar, and processed foods
- Hydrate well! Avoid all beverages other than water and decaf tea
Breathing & Movement
- Set aside 20 minutes each day to practice along with Yoga for Weight Loss or GM Fitness—or just do something you love!
- Take a walk, meditate, dance!
Planning & Shopping
- Do you have a juicer or a blender? If not, refer to the “how to choose a juicer” resource in the members’ area
- Do you know your local juice bars? If not, do a Google search and you’ll be surprised how many there are!
- Do you have fresh spices to add to your juices next week? If not, consider buying some!
I’m thinking about getting an Omega VRT juicer they say the juice can be stored up to 72 hours in the refrigerator.
One of the downsides is the juice has a lot of pulp in it would I need to strain the juice. I already have a Blentec blender so I may not really need a juicer what do you think? Michele
@Michele – it’s a good juicer, the pulp is not a big issue… we do like the omega horizontal models better than the vertical one, but they are both good!
I tried putting half of my morning smoothie into a plastic container to have for lunch, with a piece of cling wrap flat against the top surface of the mixture to reduce oxygenation. Is this a good method and can it be used for fresh juices as well? Should I be concerned about plastic leaching into the drinks?
Hi Phyllis, it is always best to use a glass container if possible. If using plastics, aim for the heavy hard plastic, as that will have less toxins than the flimsy thinner kinds. Hope that helps! Best, Sherri, GM Team
Where is the recipe for the Detox Tea and the juices
It’s in the “How To” videos.
Can I store my juice for the day in a metal?? lined thermos flask instead of glass
Hi lberman,
Stainless steel is the preferred metal to store your juices in. However, if your flask is not stainless steel, and this is the most suitable way for you to store your juices during the day, then what you are using is fine.

Can I use organic honey as a sweetener?
Hi there, it is best to avoid honey during the cleanse week. Kind regards, Sherri, GM Team
My schedule will not support this time line for the detox. How long will the videos and program be available on this site?
Hi Marianne, this Detox Program and all of the resources will always be available to you, there is no end date to your membership. Best, Sherri, GM Team
Two questions: what sweetener, if any, do you recommend and have you heard of/do you approve of Nobu..the Monk Fruit?
Also, what else are your recommendations for breakfast, other than fruit smoothies?
Hi Shelley, Jon suggests natural sweeteners like coconut palm sugar, Stevia and xylitol.
Breakfasts should ideally include ‘the big 3’: live foods, omega-3’s, and unprocessed protein. 6 breakfast recipes by Jon can be found here, just scroll down http://www.mindbodygreen.com/wc/jon-gabriel

There are is a great green smoothie juicing recipe Jon listed in the Yoga for Weight Loss along with two fantastic recipes for post-yoga snack. Is the smoothie allowed during the detox week, and are the other two (including the chocolate) allowed THIS week?
Hi Robert,
Non-dairy Smoothies are great for during the pre-cleanse week. However, during the detox week, just have juices and broths. The aim of the detox is to give the digestive system a break. With just the juices and broth, your body absorbs the nutrients quickly and without having to work too hard.

When you say ‘fresh spices’, what do you mean? Is it more than cayenne pepper and Himalayan salt, parsely, basil, etc.? Could you add fresh oregano, thyme, dill, like that? Just wondering.
Alice, there is a recipe for the broth, it’s in the How To Videos Section.
Hi Dargenstar,
Yes! Fresh oregano, thyme, dill are all great! Have fun adding the flavors you enjoy to the broth.
Best Regards

Is it ok to add these herbs to juices too?
Is there a recipie for the broth?
The broth recipe is in the How To Videos section.
My juicer broke and I know you mentioned using a blender. I have a blendtec wild side. What suggestions, tips or tricks do you have for using a blender.
Hi David, a video on Juicing with a Blender is in the How To Videos section (you’ll see the link on the right side of this page). Enjoy! Best, Sherri, GM Team
