Some of the videos on the site, including this one, aren’t working for me today. I get an error message. I have reset safari etc, but nothing. I’ve emailed the help team first thing this morning but have received no response. Please advise as this is a great video. Thanks

I just love the woole oncept of a workout only taking 4 min. Where do I find more of these short workouts. Can you please send me the link on fb Great job Brian.

  5. Neshama says:

    Thanks Brian!

I just did this 4 minute Tabata workout today and loved it!
I had trained in a boxing gym for 7 years (non-competative) before an injury landed me in physical therapy last January. It feels really good to be incorporating some basic punches. This workout really got my heart rate out and I feel energized and motivated for the first time in a long time.

Okay so thought I’d try this as 4 minutes is definitely do-able before work in the morning. So yesterday I was quite impressed that I made it through the whole 4 minutes. Felt great – very energized for the rest of the day. But today … the muslces in my back around my shoulder blades is quite sore. So now I don’t know if I should go again tomorrow or not. I think I’ll see how I feel when I wake up.

BTW 5′ 4″, 214 lbs and would like to get down to about 145lbs. Oh and I’m 56, struggled with chronic pain for 10-12 years.

    • Sine says:

Well I’ve been doing this short work out every other day since last week and I’m quite impressed that (a) I’m able to make it through and keep up with Brian and (b) other than the day after the first time through I haven’t been excessively sore, nor has it flared up any of my usual pain symptoms (neck, back). Occasionally knees are a little sore but a little Myonatural and I’m ready for another day. 🙂

Might add the arm workout next week. Thanks for such a great system Brian and Jon!

Love this video! Bring more of these for variety because they are so effective.

  8. Brian Johnson says:

I was wondering: should all three segments of the Gabriel method workout — Strength Training, High Intensity Interval Training, and Flexibility Routine — be done in one exercise period? Or can they be divided up over the day into three segments? This has probably been answered somewhere, but I’m new to the Gabriel Method, and am just getting my feet wet. By the way, I love this Tabata routine — not difficult technically, but intense!

    • Sine says:

      Hi Brian,

I don’t know if anyone else has answered you, but the newest video from Jon introducing the new exercise system has all of the components including a warm up and cool down in one 20 minute workout. I would imagine that if time was an issue, you could split the strength and high intensity workouts up but may want to add some stretching after each one. Hope that helps – I’m new to all of this too.

@ Andrew Wilson – I was able to download an app on my cell phone. It’s called “Tabata Timer”. It works great. I happen to use Android, but I’m sure Iphone will have something similar. Good luck!

I just tried this out… And I think it’s great! Four minutes is definitely doable. I do have a bad knee… so for the “Running on the spot” part, I sat on a chair with my legs half way over… and then ran on the spot that way. lol It at least doesn’t put a lot of extra pressure on the bad knee and hopefully I can work my way up in intensity (and down in weight) to doing the real thing in a standing position. I gotta be able to run fast! That bear almost got me!!! 😀

    • Brian says:

Twila that’s great work, sorry for slow reply to your post. I’m glad you were clever enough to come up with an alternative to running, and you’ll still get the benefit. Well done!

  11. Linda says:

Hi Brian, I just tried Tabata training and it is great. I’ve been doing hiit running on the beach for about a month and love it, as does my Border Collie. (I also live in SA and we have such great beaches for running). I’m 61 with a busy schedule running my own business and teaching at Uni and have about 30kg to lose. I think this is going to be a great help. With the support of my Pilates instructor I have swapped my Pilates classes for Body Pump classes-which I’ve always enjoyed. In terms of ‘rest’ breaks, can I do Tabata training on the days in between Body Pump or do I need to rest the muscles? I’m assuming the hiit running can be done every day if possible?
So good to have exercises from someone who understands the GTGE approach and the idea of changing body chemistry rather than the calories in calories out. Many many thanks!

    • Brian says:

Hi Linda, nice to hear from you.
I’d look at giving yourself days of complete rest for sure. Rest is when your body gains the advantage of the training you are doing, so it’s as important as the training….make sense.
Keep up the good work, and might see you on the beach one morning!

  12. Kazza says:

I too love it! It is short and intense and it also fits into my busy day. I have been doing it every morning except Sunday. This is all I have been doing though. I am 60 yrs old and weigh 80 kg. I would like to get down to at least 70 kg. Do I need to do more exercise than this per day?

    • Brian says:

Hey well done, you’re doing great. If you like strength training, a bit of that would be great too……I have a few blogs on that in the archive list. Keep me posted on your progress!

  13. reginageorge72@gmail.com says:

HOLY HELL !!! That was the most awesum 4 minutes ever!!! Ive spent the last 3 months doing resistance training 3 times a week for an hour each time (plus cardio 2-3 times a week) and that was the best workout ive ever tried. OMG, i sweat more doing that than i ever have doing the resistance training. lol, man im going to do this every day, if this doesnt make a difference i will be shocked. THANKS SO MUCH

  14. andrea@thejuicywoman.com says:

I love it. I have a question can you do it several times a day to get body moving after sitting at computer for hours? Will it lose its effectiveness?

    • Brian says:

Hi Andrea, good question. I’d prefer you do it every second day BUT if you’re feeling good, then daily is great. More than once per day is probably too much. I’d look for an alternative..

  15. patcolin.henderson@gmail.com says:

Thank you, Brian, this is fantastic exercise. Love that it’s so brief! Please let me know when the exercises are available for download.

  16. Vera Kerr says:

Have been on holiday and just catching up with what I missed, love the Tabata method Brian, did you mean miss one day a week or every other day?.There is no excuse for not fitting this into a day.

  17. Niksta says:

Thankyou so much, that was awesome!! So inspiring that it is so short and achievable. I also would love to have this on mp3 so that I could do it outside. Can you post a link to your blog please??

  18. Joanne says:

Wow, love this. Short and intense and easy to fit in to my very busy schedule. Thank you!

  19. Bre says:

I was nervous about trying this, but it was awesome. It wasn’t too hard and it was just the right amount of time! I am a convert. I hope to report back soon with my results!

  20. Sue says:

I should add that after doing this once I was so sore the next day any thought of 3 x a day is well gone…for now…lol!!

  21. Tevoleus says:

Wow! 4 minutes…I made it…just…haven’t been to the gym in a couple of years & carrying an injury (in addition to 40+kg of surplus!) so was a bit nervous of this but feeling great now. I was wondering how often during the day it should be done & thought maybe 3 x but see you recommend 3 x per week?
    Thanks. It’s awesome.

  22. Margaret Wasmuth says:

I just did this work out for the first time. Actually only did ONE repitition – not the second one because I was huffing and puffing so hard that I felt one for the very first time would be enough. Will have to work up but can’t believe how a few movements are so intense! Thanks for the help in showing us this.

    • Coach Brian says:

Proud of you Margaret, great start. The fact you mention ‘intense’ means you are changing your chemistry whilst doing the workout. You know, that’s what it’s all about, not about how much you do but how well you do it. Keep up the great work and I look forward to hearing how you get on. Brian

  23. Andrew Wilson says:

This great Brian. I’ve done this for a week now and really noticing a difference in my recovery rate from physical exertion.

  24. Adam L says:

I have done this for a few days now, thanks Brian it is very good. I have had to wind down the intensity a bit as I was going too hard during the 4 minutes and feeling very shaky, etc for some time afterwards. Fit enough (just) to thrash myself for 4 minutes but not to handle the consequences !

Found “Tabata-Timer” free i-phone app and highly recommend it.

  25. Luciana Baronio says:

    Hi Brian

Would it be possibe to load an MP3 version of the 4 min workout?

    Thanks
    Luciana

  26. Coach Brian says:

Cool Susanne, I’m so glad you’re doing the workout with me. Keep me posted on your progress, love to know and helps me put together resources for you guys you can use. Thanks for the post!

  27. Susanne Bille says:

    Hi Coach Brian
That is a really good video-training -i finally got started and it is so short, that it is manageable 🙂 I do it with you in front, and your encouraging words really help! Thank you Susanne

  28. Shireen Fitzgerald says:

Hi Brian. I just did this for the first time. It was good. I am 67kg trying to get to 60. I am 44yo and wanted to check with you that this is all the exercise I would need to do. I was thinking of selling my weights and treadmill as this method would be great, but I was just concerned if I would need to be doing more exercise or weight training. Thanks Shireen

    • Coach Brian says:

      Hi Shireen.
      Hold onto those weights!
Strength training plays a large part in transforming your body, particularly your internal chemistry.
I’m going to put together a simple workout you can do at home soon, so you’ll be needing those weights.
Treadmill – sell, you can always walk outside, and get some vitality as well. Thanks for your post Shireen.

      • Margaret Wasmuth says:

I live in Canada and in the winter some days the wind is up and quite cold so walking outside is not an option so for myself, a tread mill in the winter months is a must.

  29. Gracie Gravatt says:

Fantastic work out!! Brian I am going to go for it!! Thank you for your guidence and knowledge!! I will let you know of my result. I hope its what I need to get rid of the last 7 kg”s I come to a bit of a stop , Iam losing weight but very slowly even though I have cut all carbs and sugars completley out of my diet, but I am not giving up!!
    Thanks Gracie

  30. Arabella Bengson says:

How do I access the Tabatha method. There’s nothing in the black screen to turn it on.

  31. Naomi Mcphee says:

Brian, because of other factors you advised me to visualise exercise for the same result as doing it. My visualiser doesn’t work, but I got closer by putting myself in your place as I watched you here.
    Thank you.

  32. Jewel says:

Wow Brian, that is amazing… I almost collapsed in a heap after that 🙂 Needed a VERY large glass of water and it took a couple of minutes for my heart rate and breathing to settle. It’s amazing that a four minute workout is that intense.
