I started reading 21 Lessons back in 2011 and it was what prepared me for my discovery of The Gabriel Method and finally putting lots of things in place with help!
While I appreciate the spiritual intention of this interview, I find it very sad to hear “thin” being praised as beautiful and unnecessary “fat” being denigrated, especially by someone as spiritually savvy as Ms. Williamson.
There is no liberation in demeaning either side of the cycle of life and its adaptive fitness. Body fat is biological wealth, made possible by millions of years of evolution, as are the leaner more balanced physiques adapted for most excellent fight or flight (or simply playful joy and breeding!) Fully functional access to either state is our birthright and I hereby claim my share; I believe I’ll be needing them both.
Right now, over half the counties in the USA have been declared disaster areas due to drought, joining the ranks of many other countries suffering water and crop privation (Australia notwithstanding). And this, from the largest net exporter of food in the world. This has to be impacting the collective unconscious of humanity and our grasp of human driven climate change dynamics and what this means for our societies and civilizations.
Jon, your brilliant program is helping me come to consciousness and freedom of choice as an eating being. Therein lies the liberation. Thank you for sharing your personal breakthrough that others like me may find their own liberation within the terms of our evolving existence.
In the end the Buddha turned away from the self-involved emptiness of ascetisicm, embraced the fierce abundance of nature, and became a conscious participant in the world of suffering, lingering as long as possible for the sake of others, expressing the full cycle of life within the care of his consciousness.
