I have been on anti-depressants since 1992. I was told I have biological depression. I recently had to switch to Remeron and I really don’t like taking it. Is biological depression really a thing? What probiotics would be best for me? Any other suggestions you have are welcome!
    Thank you!

Yes unfriendly bacteria in your intestines can cause depression. I recommend either our probiotic or primal defines by Garden of Life. Also eat lot of fermented foods and try to find alternatives to wheat and dairy and processed sugar if you can. A detox might really help too.

Probiotics great news that they help with weight loss. I’ve shared a link here to one of Dr Rajendra Sharma’s papers in Leaky Gut syndrome, which is very connected with this topic.. His diagnosis and treatment, with right good & probiotics etc has helped my Schizophrenic nephew stay balanced over many years. Thanks for this Jon.

    John,
You mentioned a study/paper that you had read about depression and probiotics. Would you please share where to find this study? Thanks.

Dear John! This is the Kentucky Fried Chicken woman that has spoken with you regarding my many medications. I spent last year weaning myself off of all my meds. Waiting for an appointment with an alternative medical doctor for over 6 months. Miserable year. After I came off of everything, I saw this doctor in January. I was so overwrought with emotions regarding finally getting to see her that after our two hour visit, she diagnosed me with bipolar disease and wanted me on lithium or lamictal. She sent me to a physical therapist. They could not help me. I went on the lamictal for about 5 days and decided not to go down that road. I had hit an emotional depression bottom that I had never experienced before. I then went back to my regular doc and agreed to get on lexapro which was much less that I had been on. I had to get back on some pain meds but no longer on dilaudid. I have severe nausea and so I went back on phenergan as needed. Reglan as needed, Valium as needed, trazadone, and Prilosec. I was devastated. I stopped taking all my supplements such as krill oil, probiotics, d-3… I just recently started back up with my supplements. I have been swimming everyday and I love that because I’m not in pain when I’m in the water. I have lost about 30 lbs since last year. My appetite seems to be increasing lately and I fear I have stopped losing. I weigh 277 pounds. I’m discouraged. I feel much better being back on the antidepressants and my family is so grateful that I am. I was suicidally depressed. I couldn’t get out of it no matter how hard I tried. I couldn’t really even try. I am still out here doing as many things as possible to follow your lead. Is this probiotics for severe clinically depressed PTSD people? Is this a new finding? I feel my body is betraying me. Could inflammation really be at the root of my insanity? Help! Still spreading your word around. I am suppose to get an endoscopy and colonoscopy soon to see what if anything is causing this severe nausea. Maybe this gastroenterologist will recommend probiotics? With only part of my pancreas left and all the other stuff I had taken out and rerouted with my Whipple surgery, I wonder if he might be able to recommend your plan. As I told you before, my regular internist doesn’t recommend any of this plan for me. I don’t believe he knows best. After all, all the doctors I see tell me that I’m a miracle to be alive. Not so encouraging. As always, keep up the wonderful work you and your crew are spreading across this planet.

      Hi Cynthia,

Obviously I’m not Jon, but I wanted to reply. You have been through a lot but you are intelligent and you want to help yourself, and you have lost weight, too. Plus you love to swim, so that shows you are exercising. Everything you can do to nourish your body during all the turmoil, including reducing inflammatory foods, taking probiotics and eating fermented foods etc., all count toward you finding good health overall. Usually there is no one food that can cure a medical condition.

In a crisis like you seem to have, it may be a good idea to seek help from a mental health clinic, where they specifically trained to help patients who are bipolar, suicidal, and other mental health issues. That is their specialty, and usually they do more for patients than just prescribe medications. I wish you the best. Bette

I already take probiotics, and am making some “coconut kefir” (my own short cut idea for coconut yogurt). This video has given me some new ideas and I’ll let you know how they turn out. Aside from that I am increasing my intake of probiotics, especially by making my own fermented veggies, etc. Thanks for posting this I’m very happy about the new ideas it gave me. Bette
