Hi – I’m hoping someone will see this and give me an answer. I know that somewhere on this website I saw or read that it is best to soak seeds and nuts for up to 24 hours and then use a dehydrator or low temp oven to dry them out before using them, thus removing some nasty chemical that seeds and nuts have that is not good for you. A) is that advised for this recipe? B) is that advised for using seeds and nuts in any recipe? Thanks for any help.

      Hi Paula
My understanding is that different nuts need to be soaked for differing amounts of time.. Almonds about 8 hrs and cashew for half this time.. I think. I’m sure someone will correct me.

I love the muesli and have done it both ways.. soaked and unsoaked nuts. I don’t soak the seeds but I do grind the linseeds. Now that I am more organised I always have a jar of presoaked and dried almonds on the ready for any purposes.
Good luck with adapting to all the changes in the GM way 🙂

      Hi Paula,
This process is called activating nuts and seeds – and yes you are correct. Nuts and seeds naturally have an enzyme inhibitor that is a defence mechanism until the little seed is ready to germinate. Soaking Nuts and seeds activates them – and begins the process of germinating them. So in order for our bodies to properly digest them it helps that all nuts and seeds are either soaked or ground. I hope this helps.

This looks good – I am going to make some right now. Recently been told by my naturapath that post allergy test that I must go off eggs, cows milk, brazil nuts, cocoa (who would have guessed), wheat and corn. Since they have all gone, I am limited in what I can eat and looking for good recipes and feel great!

Hi Anne, usually allergies can make you feel limited in what you can eat but after awhile you find that it has opened up so many new and delicious food choices and recipes! Happy eating!

  3. Sounds great. I’ll have to make it without coconut but I know it will still be yummy!

      Hi Tracey,

You can remove or substitute any food that does not work for your body. Great job in not letting it stop you from making this!

How long can this be kept refrigerated for?
I live alone and I’m thinking about what sort of quantities I should be using.
    thank you

      Hi R C,

A few days in the fridge is ok. You can also make larger batches and freeze them!
