Hi Brian ! thank you for the vide.o I would love all these exercises in a simple video back to back so we can follow as a routine when I traveling.

    • Brian Killian -Gabriel Method Coach says:

      Hi Marcela,
      that is a good idea.
We do have a program GM Fitness where this is available but maybe next show we’ll run through a full session together.
      Thanks!

Loved the dance exercise – thank you!

Hi Brian, I really enjoy your hangouts. I’ve made a bunch of different routines from all the hangouts plus all the other you have here. But I have a question. I think I have gotten mixed up. When doing the resistance part of the exercises, should I be using light weights or heavier ones? And fast or slow? And number of reps or just do as many as you can do? It seems to me you do 10 reps, but you never mention weights and watching you, you seem to be doing them fairly fast. I’ve been doing bench press, bicep curl, shoulder press and tricep extension all with 10 pound weights and doing as many as I can which is anywhere between 12 and 20 times. Am I doing this right? I would really appreciate your input on this.

    • Brian Killian -Gabriel Method Coach says:

      Hi Jean,
sorry for slow response, been on holidays.
Yes you are doing them right and your weight chosen sounds appropriate.
The key is to do as many as you can regardless of what weight you have available.
With this is mind, once you start to be able to perform 20 reps plus easily i’d suggest to increase the weight.
I like to do them with speed however it is all about controlling the movement. Concentrate on good form for each and every rep you do.
      Keep up the good work!
      Brian

Thanks so much for replying! I appreciate your comments and they have helped me better understand which I should be doing.

I have one more question (so far): Do you do two sets of these resistance exercises or only one set. Doing as many reps as I can leaves me somewhat tired after the first set.

        Thanks again.
        Jean

        • Brian Killian -Gabriel Method Coach says:

          Hi Jean,
start with one round, and as you progress, have a try at another.
No rush for this but I’d suggest this would be your transition.
Let me know if you need anything else.
          And ‘you’re welcome’ 🙂

Hi Brian! i just watched #6 and found it really helpful. Couple of questions, I have sleep apnea and have been using a CPAP religiously for the last five years. And I’m still tired….I can sleep 6 hours or 16 hours and I wake up exhausted. I have hypothryroidism and anemia but both are under control. Lots of stress. I didn’t realize it’s normal to wake up every hour and a half or so? Doesn’t that break up your deep sleep? I always thought it contributed to feeling so tired. So with apnea, how can you tell if it’s normal waking or it’s a problem?

And the term wringing out a muscle is new to me. (canadian eh?? 🙂 )
What does that mean? I’m guessing it means building a muscle? since you said movement is usually more effective than holding?

Loved the hip exercises! and it makes a lot of sense that it helps avoid knee problems. thank you!

    • Brian Killian -Gabriel Method Coach says:

      Hi Deanna,
thanks for your post. Slowly slow response but I’ve been on holiday.
From what I understand it is normal to wake every 90 minutes or so however with Sleep Apnea I would think the wakings are much more frequent than that. The cause of wakening with Sleep Apnea is important too.
Wringing a muscle out is a general term I use to describe using up the stored sugar found in a muscle. This is the energy used when doing Resistance Training, and I liken it to squeezing out water from a towel.
Glad you like the hip exercises and finding them helpful.
All the best to you in Canada.
      Brian

I love what Brian has to say. It’s a shame that the video is poor quality and I can’t figure out why. I use a mac and all my other videos (including the ask jon segments) are perfect. But these are blurry and like Skype used to be 5 years ago… Any thoughts? Is it just me?

    • Janine -Gabriel Method Team says:

      Hi Fay,

So sorry about that! We are struggling with internet connectivity for these live segments due to Brian´s location. Hope you can hang in there!

      Hi Faye,
I am hoping the next episode is much better quality.
My connection isn’t great but have taken some steps recently to improve it.
      Thanks for your feedback,
      Brian

  7. Bette says:

Hi Brian, thank you for posting this Hangout 6, as I missed it due to an emergency. A man with epilepsy had fallen on the sidewalk in front of my house. It scared the hell out of me, and the poor man had a bloody head. Not good. Boy, witnessing that kind of thing certainly can shake a person up, not to mention the poor man! It really got to me, and of course to him more so. I was spent afterward and couldn’t do anything, even cried. I think he is o.k. and his family is taking care of him now. Whew. Well, today I watched Hangout 6 and I want to comment on the glutes and inner thigh muscle exercises. Until now I never understood these exercises and figured they weren’t worth doing, but now that you’ve explained them, I can feel how they really are doing a LOT! I especially appreciate you explaining where the muscles involved are, how they articulate and how the exercise works. This gives the exercises more meaning to me and I’m going to keep them in my routine. Previously I thought they were only ‘women’s’ exercises and didn’t do very much. A question – I’ve been doing the glute one (lift one leg at a time back and upward) while standing and leaning on a low desk top. This seems to work the leg I’m standing on as well. Is this position o.k.? I liked the dancing, it was fun, and I’ll incorporate it into my routine. Having fun is important to me so this is great. And the visualization gave me a lift. Really nicely done. Thanks for doing these hangouts.

    • Brian Killian -Gabriel Method Coach says:

thanks Bette, I missed you. Was waiting for a question from you as you’ve been one of my regulars.
Thanks so much for your encouragement.
Yes the position you are doing the glute exercises in is correct. Well done.
Keep me posted on your progress and let me know if you need anything.
      All the best,
      Brian

      • Bette says:

Aw gee, your nice personable email makes me feel guilty because I was thinking of leaving TGM Support group due to financial constraints. Now I am going to see if I can squeak out another month’s membership. And all because of Coach Brian. 🙂

        • Brian Killian -Gabriel Method Coach says:

Well it is nice to have you Bette, feel like we are mates 🙂
          All the best

          • Bette says:

Hi Brian, It looks like I am going to have to temporarily drop my Support Group Membership after all. I hope to return soon. Thank you for explaining how your exercises affect the muscles and body. I especially like that feature of your Ask Brian Hang Outs. Also I wanted to tell you that I will tell my brothers that I’m mates with an Australian. That will impress them, since they both like Australians, too. 🙂

        • Brian Killian -Gabriel Method Coach says:

          Hi Bette,
thanks for your support and I wish you the very best.
As we say in Australia …. see ya mate 🙂
